Teenager again!!!!

Yesterday July 10, was my oldest son's birthday. He is officially 13 years old. It seems like just yesterday I was a teenager but truth be told really I was. I had my son when I was nothing but a teenager myself. I've had quite the journey since then but honestly having my boys was very worth it. My sons are a blessing in disguise.

Anywho my oldest is a multifaceted child. He plays an instrument, he's smart, funny, charismatic and athletic. He is really a well rounded child and I couldn't be more proud. So now he is a teenager and I'm sure its about to get hella hard. Being that I was a teenage mom all I want is the best for my children. I want to help eliminate as many life world blocks as possible. I plan to stay supportive of whatever he plans to do.

Everyday I appreciate my children more because I have them. More and more I have come across women who can't and never had children. Their lives are completely different. They seem to always talk like they are missing something and honestly I can understand. These boys bring such joy and fulfillment to my life. They give my life a meaning. Parenting may be hard but I swear they make it worth it. Happy Birthday to the first person who really changed my life, my son, Justis Barrett!

Last Night I Released

Okay lets recap before I get into the title of this blog post. First off I haven't blogged in about 3 months. Not because I haven't wanted to but I've been quite lazy honestly. I don't have the luxury ofiInternet in my home and I just didn't make the time to do it at work. Well I mean technically at work you should be working and not working on your personal blog. Not to mention just recently within this time frame I've moved twice, once from MI and again to get settled into the apartment I'm in now. So as you can see I've had my hands full dealing with life.

Now back to "Last Night I Released." Since moving to Atlanta I've had the opportunity be around what I love most....music. Music does something to me that I can't describe. One of my favorite events I attend is The Release which occurs twice a month. The Release gives independent artists a stage for their voice. It gives us the opportunity to know about not just the talent that exist but mingle with the artists themselves. Although I love a beautiful voice, I more so appreciate the musician behind them.

In my upcoming blogs I want to share my appreciation for the likes of musicians such as Bryan-Michael Cox, Ryan Kilgore, Terrell Sass, Chris Moten, Henry Conerway III, Brandon A. Thomas and so much more. I still will talk about the many talented vocalist such as Mylah Windham, Rahbi, Victor Jackson, Amber Iman, Chantae Cann, Desmond Sean, and many many more. I support these artists by buying their album or attending their shows and I encourage you to do the same. Support these people because this is their lively hood and they had the guts to follow their dreams. Don't you want to be part of helping them come true? Wouldn't you want someone to do that for you? Last Night I attended "The Release" and next time you should too!

Not Proud Of It!!!

I've noticed that pretty much I've been doing one blog post a month. I'm not proud of it. I enjoy blogging and would love to be more consistent. Lately my life has been on full throttle (on a low scale of course). I'm going through some serious transitions for the better. For starters one of my major factors is as of February 24, 2011 I moved back to Atlanta, GA. This is HUGE for me. I love this place and honestly I felt like I was home the moment I hit that border. Also 2 weeks later March 10, 2011 I celebrated my son's 10th birthday as well as my first day on my new job as a Purchaser. So as you can see, I've been living. I will say that I FINALLY have a laptop so I shall be doing more posting. However, I'm not going to lie to you. I'm still trying to figure out what direction or lane am I going in for my blog.

For starters, I'm not a writer as so many people proclaim to be. I have no special talents or abilities nor do I pretend to. I don't like revealing anything too personal. I'm not flashy nor do I hang with the "who's who" of the world. Oh and I have zero interest in being a groupie or stalking celebrities. Also I've notice that negative energy tends to get the most energy like bashing people or things trying to be clever or catchy. I have no interest in that either. Hmmm, so is there any suggestions? LOL

Words Of The Soul

Never underestimate the power of words for they are your thoughts which tell the story of your soul. You think what you feel and your emotions are key to who you are. Feelings are powerful. Thoughts are powerful. We have to be careful of what we think. I think what we all fail to realize is everything about life is spiritual. Spirit is constant revolving energy that we can not touch, smell, taste, hear, or see. Its beyond our understanding, its pure. Its who and what we are without control. The closest we can get to understanding it is by our thoughts and feelings because like spirit we can't physically understand them.

As I grow I come to learn and understand that life revolves around faith. Faith is where all strength lies. Faith keeps us going. Faith is hope! Who are we without hope? You see everyone has dreams but without faith that you can reach them those dreams begin to taunt us. You ever see someone who only talks about what could have been and what it was. They've given up, lost hope.

Some how this blog post has went into a many of directions that I wasn't aiming for. My intent was to tell you to mind your thoughts of self and others. Words can either be medicine or poison. Be careful of the words you use and speak. Fix within of what you think of yourself so that you may think better of others. Your words are your thoughts and people judge you based on what you say and for good reason. Your words define who you are. So be selective of your words because they are the definition of you.

Comfort Of Home Can Be The Death Of You

I will be the first to admit that I'm a home body. I love being in my own space, under a warm blanket, ooh with a cup of milk and chocolate chip cookies yum. However this combination of things is a recipe for obesity and depression which for me is too close to home and unacceptable. I won't say that you can't "meet" anyone from home because thanks to the Internet anything is possible. Hell just recently I've met an exceptional man whose laptop I'm using right now to write this blog; but before I drift anymore off topic because I can seriously talk about him for at least another two paragraphs (you know how it is when things are fresh), my point is that's not excuse enough to stay in the house.

Realistically if you have goals, you aren't going to reach them by sitting around your house. Yeah okay you say, 'but I'm in school and I come home to study' or 'my job has me working X amount of hours.' Now you see that, those are EXCUSES, which a lot of people like to confuse and mix up with REASONS. See reasons are legitimate obstacles as to why you couldn't at that particular time do something versus excuses are the reason you never get anything done. Do you see that difference? If you don't, its probably because you're one of those people who make excuses. Now back to these goals, I was raised with the saying "its not what you know, but who you know." Keyword is that common phrase is "WHO" meaning you have to know someone. You aren't meeting these 'someones' in the "comfort of your own home." You meet these someones by getting out and being social or active.

Life can be overwhelming trust me I know, but you aren't making anything easier by hiding from it. Get out there and get in the game. You aren't fooling anyone but yourself. Don't want to believe that's fine, I'm only here to give you my opinion based from my own personal experience. I'm not the kind of individual to talk on something that I myself haven't been through or tried. That would be considered ignorance which I wants no part of. But hey, you do what makes you "happy" and I'm going to continue doing me. I will try to be the example of my own advice. Keep reading my blog and watch my progression :)

Psssst.....I'm Baaaaacccckkkk

Peek-A-Boo

Hi all, so I know you're thinking yep she started a blog but didn't stick it out and follow through. I guess in a way you would be right but let me explain. See the big issue is my computer died on me in September which oddly enough is a month after my mother died. No I do not talk about it, not only do I not talk about it but I don't even have pictures up. Just not ready to handle it really. I'm genuinely a happy person and I can't really feed into sadness. So I choose to avoid it altogether until I'm ready. Okay so as you can see, I have a lot on my plate. However since September I have been back and forth to what I consider my real home, Atlanta. I'm really missing it there. I love the friends that I consider family there. So trust me when I say I will have a lot more to blog about real soon. I'm ambitious and unfortunately I've put way to much of that in people who don't appreciate it anymore. Not anymore, from here on out its about me and my lil fellas.

So why is this called peek-a-boo, well because I'm just checking in but I'm not ready to be consistent as of yet. I can't wait till I get an actual computer of my own again. Until then I will peek in and out of my blog from time to time. Hang in there with me. ;-)

Much needed break

So I realize that I've been gone but that don't mean I've given up. I will be the first to admit that I have been guilty of starting things and not finishing them. Over time as you age, you start to feel guilty about it and if you don't than you should. I understand in life that you have to experiment to find what's right for you but at some point in your life you need to stick something through rather its for you or not.

So over this past month I've experienced a lot. My life has had a few bumps and bruises as well as some beautiful moments. You have to take it all in. I choose to not go extra personal in my blog but I'm dealing with it. I did learn a few things. Never underestimate the mind for it is very powerful. Also if you don't have friends get some because life is lonely without them. My life has been amazing because of the friends that I have that embrace me and care for me when life throws you curve balls.

This is a short blog today cause I'm just happy to be back blogging. I'm going to gather my thoughts and have many things to share in the near future. There is excitement to come people. In the words of Mary J. "Share My World"

Get Your Stretch On

Its fall and you know what that means....New Fashions!!! I used to not be big on this kinda of stuff but the older I get and come into my woman-hood lol, the more I'm like yes bring it on...

Growing up I love leggings. I mean who don't. They are so comfortable and can be matched with almost anything. Anyone of any size can wear them, its just what they wear with them that becomes the deciding factor of "oh no she didn't." I'm not a skinny chick by no means. I've got thick legs for days but you better believe I will rock a pair or two. Anywho, here is a sample of some leggings this fall.

Just when you thought they were jeans...
This gives it motion w/o doing too much.
You can rock this a cute solid top.
Of course there is some stone washed.
If you like edgy....Ripped
So will you be rocking some leggings and if so which ones...I got my eye on a few ;-)

Afraid of life....

I haven't blogged in quite some time. Its not because I've started something and back slide into giving it up. I enjoy blogging and see it as a good form of release. Often times its hard to get a grip on your thoughts until you see them written down on paper. This blog is my piece of paper.

"Life Is Short"

Sure we hear this all the time and most of us blow it off. When you are growing up it seems like it takes forever to become an adult. However has anyone noticed the moment you become an adult the years start racing past you. One day you are graduating talking about going to college or pursuing some entertainment dream, the next you look up and its your class reunion and you're wondering if anyone else has failed to accomplish all their dreams...smh

The problem is the "real world" is full of responsibilities and limited, restricted work and school schedules. How many people do you know started a job and said it was just temporary. Then temporary turned into 5 years because of a house, car, or just fear of not being able to obtain anything better. Or is that person you? Life is meant to make mistakes, and take risk no matter the circumstance. More importantly make those mistakes while you're young. If you don't live and take chance while you're young you are heading down a lane of would've, should've, could've which is basically bound to end up with a major midlife crisis or overall depression.

There is nothing to fear but fear itself...Live like you will never live again cause guess what...YOU WON'T!!!

Mini Vacay

So I recently took a little 4 day weekend vacay and I spent it with my best friend Derek. I know Detroit don't have the best reputation but it still has much to offer and wonderful things to see. Funny thing is I got caught up and trying to show him the sites of the city and began to get frustrated when I realized how much there was to do here. I haven't even scratched the surface of places but I tried to pick what was convenient for our schedule.

Currently I don't even live in the city but instead Ann Arbor which I truly love so of course we had to spend some time enjoying the sites here and we discovered such nice culture in this town. Then we headed to the GM headquarters which is located in the Renaissance building after stopping off at the infamous John F. King Used Book Store. I spent my Saturday at Cedar Point amusement park. Sunday was a family day and Monday was strictly recovery.

So how was your weekend?

The warm blanket of mediocrity.....

I have a good friend who loathes mediocrity. As a matter of fact I think she's down right terrified of it. Personally I can't blame her. When you grow up in a city or neighborhood where everyone thinks just getting by is just enough in life you might be afraid of it too. However, this isn't about to be a blog post bashing "the little or less fortunate" people. I don't think everyone who is mediocre always wanted to be. At the same rate not everyone is meant to be a star cause somebody has to clean the toilet. Who am I too judge?!! Nobody!!!

First of all there are plenty of people who are perfectly happy with being mediocre because its less responsibility. Then there are those who just want the easy route in life because they are lazy or have lack of patience or both. Of course some people can't help their disabilities rather it be physical or mental. I personally have a slight case of Atychiphobia (fear of failure) which tends to hinder you from wanting to try due to the possibility of falling flat on your face. The catch 22 is, the same reason I'm scared is the very same thing that pushes me past my fear...my kids. Because of my little men, losing a little is still losing too much but at the same time I refuse to live my life not trying because they deserve nothing but the best period. Not to mention I am their mentor and example of life and living. No excuses, just do it!!!

If your not successful what is your mediocre excuse? More importantly, what are you going to do about it?!!!

I'm Addicted To Crack!!!

So its been 1 year and about 4 months since my last perm. However, I'm not sure just how much longer I can hold out. I know a lot of us have seen the Chris Rock movie "Good Hair" and all the horrible things that was said about our little chemical friend. So with that I'm about to come at you like one of our everyday herbal friends (weed head) on why its okay for me to use perm. No one gives off a better bullshit debate than a "Herbal Head" *sigh*

On that note we'll start this argument off with "I can stop anytime I want" then follow it with "I just use it for the convenience of work." Next I'm gone compare it to pressing your hair and flat ironing it and say how excessive heat isn't good for  your hair either and for those who grow dreads they have to cut their hair off and start over to change it up. Of course I have to point out how financially its cheaper than wearing wigs and weaves. Last but not least this wouldn't be a foolish argument without throwing in "GOD" so if he didn't want us to have or use perm he wouldn't have let man invent it...Now with that I'm done...LOL

Stop Blaming Monday

Monday for most Americans is the start of the work week which is why it has such a bad reputation. However, just like everything else in life, its all in the matter of how you choose to look at it. Personally I think its totally unfair the way Monday has been judged. I mean is it Monday's fault that you hate your job, absolutely not. Monday should be looked at as an opportunity to go to work starting fresh and revived from the weekend. Monday should be the day you tell yourself, this week is the week I get that promotion, close this deal, complete that project, or make this killer presentation. I mean is it Monday's fault that you have a job and not a career, or that you didn' follow your dreams. NO!!! Monday didn't tell you to get complacent at your job, drop out of school, or stay up partying all night Sunday.

I say lets stop this vicious cycle of hating Monday. Lets teach our children that the start of something is just as important as the finish. We don't want them starting school feeling defeated before the first bell. I say if you can't do what you love than love what you do. Or at the least don't bring me down with your depressing vibes. Quit and get another job and if you can't do that than just put up and shut up. At the end of the day not only are you getting on my nerves but your also driving your own self into a depression with your negative thoughts.

Sign,

A fan and friend of Monday ^_^

Thirsty Thursday

Okay so I've decided to call my Thursday blog entries 'Thirsty Thursday' because its the wrap of the week for me. I guess you could compare doing a blog to doing a column so it should be some structure so that your audience can understand your flow. Originally I though I would blog 5 days a week but that's too much considering I'm a full time mom, part-time college student, and I work a regular 9-5 so this "therapeutic" blog can not become a new piece of responsibility on my plate. I'm doing this to release not burden so M-Th it will be.

Now where was I? Oh yeah 'Thirsty Thursday' which is titled that for a numerous of reasons but don't get attached to the title cause that may change but its all I could come up with for the moment. One of the reasons I call it thirsty is because of the weekly drinks I will be introducing to the audience that I would like to try and the other reasons you will have to come back for :-p

This weeks drink are:

49er Gold Rush shot

Drink Ingredients:
==================
1/2 oz Cinnamon schnapps (Goldschlager)
1/2 oz Gold tequila (Cuervo)
==================
Instructions:
Pour in tequila, and cinnamon schnapps in a shot glass (chilled, to your advantage).

And for those who would like something to sip on, may I suggest....

A Gilligan Island

Drink Ingredients:
==================
1 oz Vodka
1 oz Peach schnapps
3 oz Orange juice
3 oz Cranberry juice
==================
Instructions:
Shaken, not stirred!
Yummy, Enjoy!!!

She is intelligent, vibrant, talented, creative, and gorgeous inside and out. If I was to ever have a daughter Ms. Lexxi is exactly what I would want her to be like. I'm very proud of her and I know even the sky isn't the limit of her possibilities. Love you niecey boo =)

Its Complicated.......or is it?!!!

Its Complicated: I'm sure we've all heard this following the question "Are you in a relationship," heck some of us might have even given this as a response. "Its Complicated" is also a big hit on a very small subtle social website by the name of Facebook that you may or may not have heard of. However, what exactly does complicated mean. Well we know it doesn't mean your single so it has to mean in a relationship right. So why don't people just say in a relationship. You know why, I'll tell you why, because they are trying to create a grey area. Remember the oh so popular "we're on a break" and how no one ever really knew what that was and how to define it. It was different for every relationship.

Truth is none of its complicated, the only thing thats complicated is the communication. The communication is only complicated because of the honesty. Honesty isn't just hard to hear its hard to tell but I'm not even going to go this route cause thats a completely different blog. So back to "Its Complicated" which is basically I'm in a relationship but its not going the way I want so I'm open to taking numbers if it can be discreet.

Call me old school but I don't do gray areas and as old folks would say "either it is or it ain't, ain't no in between." People try to hard and sure maybe I should sugar coat this and water it down but for what, thats the problem now. Everyone is talking in riddles so that when confronted they can twist and contrive it to be whatever they want. The whole no harm no foul and its your fault that you didn't understand something that you were never suppose to understand anyway, is the way of the world today.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no prude and I enjoy a great debate like anyone but at some point a line needs to be drawn because this is how people get hurt. These new generations are more and more out of control with their emotions and at the end of the day its not worth it. People need to stop being so selfish and let go because the possibilities are endless in this sea of fish (if you know what I mean).

So the next time somebody say "Its Complicated" just say, "basically your in a relationship that your not trying to leave but you want to have some fun on the side" and see the response you get.....

So I did it, now what.....

As much as I hate to be part of the crowd cause I never like riding a trend, here I am.....A Blogger! Smh!

What to expect...hmmmm let's see. First off I'm doing this for me, strictly. Not for attention, not for a possibility of being discovered, not for friends and damn sure not for any one's approval. That's a bold statement to make right, well I'm a bold person. Truth of the matter is I'm considering this to be my journal and since I'm a pretty good typer but a lazy writer, this seem to make since to me. Now don't get me wrong you can share your thoughts and opinions however this is still about me and I don't have to agree or care about what you think. However, I mean that in the most humble way possible. On this blog, you will definitely have to know how to agree to disagree.

I don't know how often I will post or what I will post about because there is no objective or goal behind this. This is my new found therapy and since I'm single, I need it.
